You are only as limited as your beliefs.
We all have self-limiting beliefs that hold us back in some area of our lives. In old age, this becomes truer than ever. It’s so easy to focus on the ways that we’re not as young as we used to be. That’s where our problems really start, though.
When we stop challenging ourselves, and what we think we’re capable of, we give up on so much life has to offer.
Our bodies fall apart when we stop moving and exercising. The mind unwinds when we stop learning, reading, and thinking. Our hearts become silent when we stop socializing, laughing, and having fun.
Living in the present and getting rid is a skill that anyone can learn. It starts when you let go of your fears, start practicing mindfulness, and rid yourself of your self-limiting beliefs. It’s not always easy to change our patterns. We’re creatures of habit. But, in the next few weeks, we’ll be focusing more on what you can do to change your situation for the better and change your way of thinking to a growth mindset.
The goal of this post is to remind you of something you already know; life is change and crossroads are beautiful because you can carve out a path you want ahead. There’s no reason to stay right where you are, dreaming of things you hope to do one day. It’s too easy to just drift from one path to another, and wait for someone else to put you on their path.
And, while it’s true that our beliefs regarding our limitations sometimes do have a basis in reality, it’s how we choose to approach these problems that matters. Are the problems real or self-created? Could these circumstances really be as limiting as you believe them to be? Can you overcome these problems? Are these short-term or long-term limitations? Are they likely to get better or worse? Should this be a surrender or a call to action? Can you think of anyone who has been through something similar and succeeded in overcoming it?
Imagine for a minute that there is nothing you are not capable of doing. So, let’s get started. What can you do to start today?
